Utah

We biked through Utah, and I think most of my team would say that it is really an extremely desolate, useless state. It had some good things though, like the rocks. We visited Arches National Park and Bryce Canyon and they were both very good looking parks. On our day off in Moab, Utah, we hiked to Delicate Arch, which is one of the most impressive ones in the park, and it really was pretty sweet. And Bryce Canyon is also fantastic. It was very red and had cool rock formations. Capitol Reef was also really nice.
On the other hand, Utah was really hot and not nearly as flat as I had hoped. There was a significiant amount of climbing, much of it on gravel roads, which was really not fun. And of course my team came down with some sort of virus, known to us as "the Plague." Basically 24 of the 26 of us have had vomiting, fevers, diarrhea, and exhaustion. I'm one of the lucky two to avoid it. So the whole team was pretty miserable for the most of Utah.
But some more fun things did happen. We camped a lot and in Capitol Reef there were no showers so we showered in the river, except the river was red so I don't know how clean it actually got us. We also met three other cyclists who are biking across the country. They're about our age and are following the same route as us the rest of the way, so we've been hanging out with them a lot. Unfortunately they got the plague, which we feel bad about.

Now we're in Nevada though, on the "Lonliest Highway." It is completely desolate and Life Magazine recommended survival skills to motorists who chose to cross it. But it's not that bad. It's interesting though because you can see the road like twenty miles ahead, so that can be frustrating because it makes it feel like you're not moving at all. It's hard to believe the trip's almost over though. Only 9 more riding days. It's sad and weird at the same time. I'll update more when I can.
